Q: Will this work on a mac?

It works great, but NOT with the included software, which is Windows only. Several people have recommended OBS, but I was not able to get sound, just video, and it is a complex and poorly designed interface. On the other hand, QuickTime, which is on every Mac, is simple and works great. There is a pull down menu near the record button. You have to set Video to AV to USB 2.0, and set Audio to USB 2.0 Mic. Then hit record. That’s it.

Q: Are there any drivers available for this in linux? I plan to use it on a Raspberry pi 3.

Regarding the user who said it did not pass audio, I found a similar issue with a similar Empia USB capture device. Here's the thing: You have to dig into the *video* input capture settings, where you'll find a Mute checkbox, which defaults to enabled. You'll want to uncheck that, then audio capture will work. Audio capture via PulseAudio may also be crackly and broken, in which case, it's advised to use pavucontrol to disable PulseAudio for the capture device, and use ALSA directly.

Q: Can I transfer the video from my vhs to my pc with this?

Sure -- you play your old video tapes on a VHS player (with either red/white/yellow or S-Video output connector) and capture them as digital files (such as MPG format) on any computer with a USB port. For me, it worked like a champ. . .
