Great to conceal USB sticks you don't want tampered with

I have installed this dongle with no issues into my server build. I'm running unraid on that system which boots from a USB drive. I didn't want the USB stick to be tampered with from the exterior of the case and decided to use this so there USB stick could be concealed within the case. So far have I've been running with this attachment for a year with no issues.Would certainly recommend for anyone else that needs to have USB-A access within their case.

Another quality product

Startech has yet to ever disappoint me. I know cables are pretty basic but startech offers all sorts of cables. Particularly very short ones that help with cable management. This particular item works as advertised so far and seems well constructed just like anything else I've gotten from them over the years.

I really like this . . .

I have a computer & I like to tinker but it's kinda' dark in there. So I've tried a number ways to light it but most didn't work very well. Looking at the motherboard manual I noticed it has 3 USB headers. Checking amazon I found this "USB Motherboard Header Adapter" for $3.99 [price has increased to $6.07?]. I already had a couple of USB-powered LED light strips so I pluged the short one into the adapter, plugged the adapter into the USB header on the motherboard & now I have a great light inside my computer. The light strip even has a switch to turn it on & off. I'll try to photo it as soon as I get thru swapping some drives around.I'm disappointed to see the price jump up so much but other than that this thing has been the answer to my computer tinkering in the dark problem & it was so simple w/ the adapter.

Perfect if you need it

This little gizmo lets you use an external USB device inside your case. If that's what you want to do, it works like a charm! Why would you want to do that? In my setup, I built a FreeNAS box booting off a USB stick (with the real drives dedicated to network-shared storage). I could use one of the USB ports in the back just fine, but mounting it internally is a little slicker-looking, and means there's no risk of breaking my server because someone unplugged the stick to transfer some photos or something, or because it banged into something and got dislodged.Definitely a nice-to-have rather than a must-have, but it works well and I like it. (It helps that in my case, it reaches just far enough to let me slide the USB key into the racks on the case bottom which held the HDD slides; much better than hanging in air.)I did have to reseat it once after some major work inside the case; it wasn't visibly off the pins, but the system couldn't read the drive; a simple re-seat did it, but in a high vibration environment this would be a worry. (Or if you go to LAN parties a lot or something; you might want to secure it mechanically, or with a locking solution on the contact pins.)

Easy to install and works like a charm

I had a USB-powered fan lying around from an old Xbox mod I did and wanted to use it in the new PC build I had, but did not want to have it mounted on the outside of the case, buy a USB PCI card with an internal port (between my board and case I already had more than enough USB ports for my needs) or have a cable running from the inside of the case to an outside port.I did, however, have a spare USB header on the motherboard. You can fit two of these cables on each header, but (as in my case) connecting one by itself works just fine. I mounted the fan onto the case, connected this to the motherboard, then fan's USB cable to this, and everything works swimmingly.Keep in mind it's not just fans you can connect - lights, flash drives and anything else that draws USB power is fair game.Simple to install, well-built, and functional. Five stars in my book.
