Works great and very fast.
Ordered this for an extra M.2 SSD I had laying around. The first one was DOA and would not work, pretty sure it was used and returned by others and resold to me. Returned and ordered a second unit. Worked perfect out of the box. 980MB/sec transfer rate when moving files from the SSD in the laptop to the USB SSD. Very happy with the performance and build. Other than the bad one out of the box I would buy another as it works fantastic.

Only for SSD with no cooling pad
Excellent item, made with great materials. But don't support SSD with cooling pad.

Compact and well constructed
Easy to use and compact. Runs a bit hotter than I expected but otherwise good buy.

Not very fast < 1000MB/s
This is a very nice looking and feeling drive but I do not get expected speeds via supplied cable and 2023 M3 MacBook Air (which has 2 Thunderbolt 4 ports). I get less than 1000MB/s transfer. It hovers between ~ 860MB/s & 925MB/s for both write / read (using the Blackmagic Disk Speed app). On the other hand, Satechi's USB4 enclosure performs somewhere around 3k for write / read. I'm using Samsung 990 Pro NVMe SSDs. 1T in this drive, and 4T in the USB4 drive.

Solid Case, High Bandwidth
Quite a nice little chonk of a case. I'm fairly confident it'll do well at soaking heat from your NVMe drive, so long as the thermal pad is installed properly. The directions suggest to place it /under/ the drive, but I believe doing so would leave it in contact with the PCB and plastic sled of the enclosure, whereas placing the thermal pad on top puts it in direct contact with the case. However, the pad seems to be about 2mm thick, which means it's a snug fit, and installation in this manner requires patience and a delicate touch. I was able to press the drive down into the sled to get just enough clearance to slide it in without sticking to the enclosure, and then applying slow but firm pressure until the sled was fully seated. Removal might be more difficult, and it would probably be smart to have replacement thermal pads just in case this one becomes damaged in the process.I benchmarked the enclosure with a [ASIN:hK9XYl0 2TB SK Hynix Gold P31 drive], which has an advertised maximum speed well beyond the enclosure's. I also compared this enclosure with a [ASIN:B08RVC6F9Y Sabrent model] with similar specs, and I think I prefer the Satechi in terms of design. My only complaint with the Satechi is that it uses a silicone peg to retain the drive in the sled. This little peg is fiddly and easy to lose. It would have been nice had they used a different tool-less retainer, and/or included a replacement. My only other comment is that I don't know what controller this enclosure utilizes. I purchased the Sabrent after reading that it supposedly has a very good one. Regardless, the Satechi meets its claimed specs, so I'm quite pleased either way.

Updated Review - 5 Stars
I picked up two external adapters, this one was more expensive by quite a bit than the second one. I'm glad I ordered two, because this device would not allow me to initialize the drive. Virtual disk manage gave a incorrect function error, which I tried to circumvent via command line, but failed. I moved the drive to the cheaper device and it initialized right away. I tried 2 separate machines with device 1, so it's definitely the device. Once initialized, I was able to put the drive back in and it works just fine. Unfortunately I had to make a huge deduction for failure to initialize because I would have been dead in the water without the backup device.*UPDATE* 2.3.2023After my initial review, Satechi quickly contacted me regarding issues with the enclosure. After explaining the failed disc initialization, they immediately sent out a replacement enclosure. Once again I started with a brand new hard drive only this time it was recognized immediately and I was able to initialize without any issues. I've changed my rating to five stars for this product. The enclosure is very well made with a sleek modern look and nice sized vents for cooling. The customer service response was great once I left the review again I was immediately contacted and issued a replacement free of charge. I have no problem recommending this device. I've added additional images of the successful disk initialization.

Read write speeds are far slower than expected
Very misleading listing. 10Gbps is not the same as 10GB/s which means the 7450MB/s read speeds on the 990 aren’t going to be utilized at all. It’s not slower than the SanDisk extreme pro portable drive, but it only beats it by a few mbps which I don’t really understand how the math works there, but that’s just what the benchmark showed.
