Santorini - Strategy-Based Board Game

Excellent game! Works best at 2 player, but can be played with 3 (I tried once, won't be doing it again! 😆)Beautiful components, and very well made. Simple rules to pick up but has a lot of strategy. Each game doesn't take long, but there's so much variety with the different 'god cards' it doesn't get dull. I've played around 20 times so far and that's just with the basic gods. Am looking forward to trying the more advanced ones.

Thats it!To win, you just need to get on the top of the 3rd storey of a villa!Simple!But then you start thinking strategy, planning 5 moves ahead, trying to predict all your opponents future moves.If thats not enough, you then have the ‘god cards’ which adds another element to the gameplay and allows all sorts of unpredictable situations to occur...so all your planning gets thrown out the window in a single move.This is a great game which can be played with kids on a simple level and with adults on a more deeper level.The unpredictability makes the game refreshing everytime you play it and you don’t need to refer to the rule book every time as the rules are so simple.RECOMMENDED: If you like Chess, not being a serious Chess player but still like the game, a fan of Netflix’s The Queen’s Gambit, strategy, planning, simple rules and 2 player games!- Backseat_Boardgamers

The object of the game is to build 3 levels for a structure and to move one of your 2 pieces onto that 3rd layer on your turn. At the same time your opponent is trying to do the same but can block you by completing the 4th layer (the blue dome). You can move up one level at a time or down as many levels as you like. However your opponent can also win by blocking both your pieces so beware!At 2 and 3 players the games are relatively short lasting no more than 20 mins or so but the strategy is very deep.You can play as mere mortals or add some fun with godly powers! These can range from stopping your opponents from performing actions, or adding extra abilities to yours (e.g. opponents cannot move up this turn if you did on your last turn or your pieces can place a dome on ANY level not just the 4th level and blocking it)At 4 players you team up with the player opposite you taking one piece each. This is a lot of fun too as trying to work out a strategy with your team mate is great funI'd highly recommend this as it is a firm favourite with us

I came to sing praises of Santorini. As a board game aficionado and game developer, I bought it for my 7yo solely based on reviews (only found out about the digital version from the manual, however it’s not much interest to me).It did not disappoint, quite the contrary. It offers multiple game modes (layering on complexity with the use of god powers), and delivers on both the easy learnability and great depth, elevating it to the heights of classics like Go, Chinese Chequers etc. TBH, we’re still playing without the powers, and it’s still great fun.The presentation of the board and game pieces is lovely, though for £30 it could be lovelier. I’m less of a fan of the character designs of the gods; I find their facial expressions irritating, and the depiction of Aphrodite & Eros could be made more appropriate for younger players - but I’m nitpicking.The game comes with multi-lingual rulebook; for some reason, we got god cards with names in Portuguese.

BOUGHT THIS GAME AS IT WAS ON MY TO BUY LIST FOR AGES.FINALLY GOT IT FOR A GREAT PRICE! 16.99GBP! WHEN IT USED TO BE WELL OVER 27GBP.THIS IS A GAME EVERYONE MUST GET! IT IS ABOUT PURE STRATEGY AND NO DICE ROLLING OR LUCK INVOLVED.WHAT STRATEGY WORKS IN ONE GAME WILL NOT WORK IN ANOTHER.VERY SIMPLE AND EASY TO LEARN. THE GOD CARDS ARE SO MANY IN THIS GAME THAT IT GIVES COUNTLESS POSSIBILITIES. HAVE PLAYED WITH ONLY 6 OF THEM FOR NOW AND HAVE SO MANY MORE TO GO.THIS IS BETTER PLAYED WITH 2 PLAYERS BUT GOOD WITH 4 TOO.THE BOARD LOOKS AMAZING AS WELL AS CARDS. THE GAME IS VERY SIMPLE BUT ADDS SEVERAL LAYERS OF STRATEGY.HIGHLY RECOMMENDED FOR ALL BOARD GAMERS. IF YOU HAVE DOUBTS, DOWNLOAD THE APP AND PLAY ON YOUR PHONE FIRST.

After reading of low quality versions on BGG I was hesitant especially since this one was the lowest price of others available though different sellers.The only negative is this is the German version so the glossy instructions aren't in English. They've added the English one's as a cheaper black and white photocopy.The board is raised (I read of some not having this) so don't worry about it being inferior.A great game! I can play with my 8yr old without the god cards and she has a decent win rate. Very easy to pick up. With my partner and older children I use the god cards. This adds a lot of variety to the game. I'm not usually a fan of abstracts but this is a keeper.

We tend to play this at board game evenings when the first few people have arrived and we're waiting for everyone else. Quick to learn but hard to master, and each round takes only 15-20 mins. It's great with 2 or 4 players (4-player is 2 teams so functionally the same as 2-player), in our experience 3-player unbalances it and should be avoided. Imagine playing chess with 3 players on the board, that's how it feels! Beautiful board and pieces though a bit unnecessarily large in my opinion, it's a 'full-size' board game box whereas they could easily have shrunk all the components 50% or more and made it more portable. Still a great game, and with the God Power cards has a lot of replayability and variety.
