Aquascaping | OHKO Stone | 5kg Pack | Planted Aquarium Goods

Vendor delivered very good natural OHKO stones of which two pieces where spectacular. My main issue was that the stones were not in an original packing, put rather loosely packed in news paper causing some breakage of corner elements. The parcel itself came by fedex & was quickly delivered. Abroad I have seen these stones in original packing with blister packs and bubble inserts to protect the delicate shapes. This is a soft sedimentary lava rock which is high in clay content and supposely pH neutral. The stones had to be washed thoroughy under lowe pressure hose to wash away the loose debris and red clay poweders. But once set in the tank they are very stable, the holes and vents provide excellent place for Shrimps & fish to hide. The surface itself could provide a good strata for moss to fasten. Attached pics show the my new Nano Tank setup with the Fluval Edge glass tank. Am happy that Amazon has a vendor stocking this authentic product.

Stones are completely different as shown in the picture... i received ordinary stone which is available 200 rs per pc at my nearest aqua shop..

Good quality stones. Things to mention:1. Packing was just ok. They were stuffed in a carton box. As these stones are soft stones (red clay crystalized over years) a tiny bit of wrapping would only help better.2. Lots of lots of dirt. The stones were literally covered with 1 inch (no exaggeration) dirt and clay. The condition in which stores are covered in clay would literally mess where ever you touch or keep them. Don't open the package in bathroom or any place where you don't want to floor to good dirty heavily. Please open the package in a place where you don't mind messing up.3. Requires extensive cleaning. Did it in a place where you have good water supply and drain that won't clog because of sand and clay. I did it on my outside lawn where I was ok to mess up the floor and also the drain wouldn't clog up. I rinsed the stones under moderate to a high pressure of water which took of the big chunks of dirt and clay around the stone. Then soaked the stones in a bucket of hot water for 24 hours. This helped in softening the clay which initially looked like the rock itself. After a good rinse, the softened clay washed away. Then soaked it in the hot water for 24 hours. I changed water thrice to ensure the water temperature was decently hot. Next day I used a strong but flexible brush and scrubbed the rocks heavily, a lot of red colored stain washed away. That is when I realized all the creeks in the rocks also had a lot of clay which the brush couldn't reach. I used a hard plastic string from my plastic broomstick and poked into all the creeks. This whole process of scrubbing and poking took 4 hours. Soaked the stones again in normal water for 24 hours. Scrubbed one final time the next day, for about 15 minutes for all pieces combined.4. The stones are stunning and look great. The only slight disappointment for me was one of the stone pieces was more of a horizontal bed than a vertical piece. It was one of the two big pieces. Wish it was a vertical piece. But that's ok. It happens.5. Before placing the stones into the aquarium I used API Water Test KIT + API GH and KH test KIT. Performed tests for Ph, High Ph, Ammonia, Nitrate, Nitrite, Gh and KH tests. Noted down the readings.6. After placing in the aquarium tank, I waited for 24 hours. I haven't noticed any coloration. The water stayed in original color. Performed the water tests again and none of the test results showed an increase/decrease in the previously noted values. I waited for 24 hours more to double check and repeated the tests, the same results. This is a very good sign. Very happy that the stones don't affect the water condition.7. Shipment was done using FedEx. They screwed up the delivery timeline. Had to follow up myself and also seller helped too to get this resolved.8. Price seems to be a bit high on Amazon. Cheaper options for the same weight of stones are available in other marketplaces. Do check the prices on the internet before you purchase.9. See the pictures. I wish I would have captured original condition of the stones. The pics are after cleaning and placing in my 300 liters tank.Summary:- Good stones that have no effect on water condition. Looks amazing if scaped appropriately in the tank.- Extensive cleaning required to ensure the stones are clay and dirt free. Time-consuming task.- Caution while cleaning the stones as these are soft stones which are easy to break if you hit hard enough.- Scope for improving the Packaging.- The seller was reasonable and responds timely for resolving any queries.- Priced a bit high compared to other marketplaces.I took days to clean, analyze the stones and water condition. Hope this helps someone by saving time and energy and really understanding what they are going to get into.
