Excellent quality - worth the price
The quality is very good. Weight from handle to lens ratio is great. Bought it for my mom, because of her macular degeneration and she loves it. Good enough to display on a desk.

This is a great gift for grandparents.
I am over the age of 60 and have reading glasses, but sometimes you need a boost. This is a heavy, well made magnifying glass and is nice enough to be displayed on a nightstand or side table.

Nice looking magnifying glass
The quality of the magnifying glass was better than I thought it would be. Looks vintage. Comes in a nice gift box. I ultimately had to return it because it was not a strong enough magnification for the person who was using it. Returning was easy. Now have the same magnifying glass in 10X magnification and the recipient loves it.

Great weight in hand, Looks beautiful
I'm just getting to the point where single-vision glasses aren't really doing it, and I have progressive lenses now to make up the difference. However, I really can't see the up-close detail I used to take for granted. However, I'm not ready to just give up and wear readers on a chain around my neck or get one of those lighted plastic magnifiers you see the older generations using to read the paper and whatnot. I mostly need magnification for "cool" (to me) stuff like examining circuit boards and so on, so I wanted something cool to do it with. Not some plastic monstrosity. My biggest fear ordering this is that it would be some cheap piece of crap that looks good in pictures but not in person: good from afar, but far from good. This was not the case. The magnifying glass is hefty. It has a really good weight in the hand, balanced towards the lens quite a bit but not so much that the handle feels light and cheap. I'm pretty sure it's not aluminum colored to look like brass - not sure what it is, but it feels too heavy to be aluminum. I'm sure at this price the materials aren't premium, but the lens is definitely glass, it's very clear, and the whole thing feels solid and well-made.The result is a magnifying glass that doesn't make me feel like an old man to use, and I'm not embarrassed to hand it to someone else if we're looking at tiny stuff - they're not going to pick it up and think I have some cheap crappy magnifier. And if you're shopping around let me give you a little advice: I bought this one and a 10x magnifying glass that's similar in appearance. If you're going to buy just one, get this one. 5x is plenty of magnification for reading very tiny print or just about anything else. I'm happy to have the 10x as well, but this one will be much more useful.
