Performs as claimed by manufacturer!

I bought a few of these on a whim to test them out. They seem to perform as well as the manufacturer says.We were having some storms last night, and I got a call from a customer that he had no WiFi. In this particular install, this surge protector was installed between a PoE injector and an EdgeRouter X. There were no lights on the ERX, so I replaced the surge protector and, Tada! His network was back up within a minute or two of my arrival on-site. The cable modem at this location was toasted by a lightning event, so he'll still have to wait for his ISP to come replace that before he has internet again. I generally advise clients to purchase their own modem, but at this location there are frequent lightning events, so it's actually more economical for him to lease the cable modem from them, and let them deal with replacing it two to three times a year when it gets knocked out by lightning. The lightning events at this location typically effect only the cable modem and whatever is directly connected to it, which tells me the offending current is coming into the house through the coaxial cable connection. Apparently, the ISP's not concerned enough to install adequate lightning protection on their equipment.

Be Prepared for Surges over Ethernet

These surge suppressors were purchased after an event where we lost a smart TV and other electronics connected by Ethernet. No one was home, but two routers, two switches, a set top box, an on-board computer Ethernet port, and an Android TV box were fried in addition to the smart TV. One device, an Ethernet radio receiver (how we get out internet) was protected by a similar device and continues to work well.I took a peek inside the device and it seems well engineered and nicely manufactured. The extruded aluminum case gives it a sturdy feel. There is really no way to know for sure if it will prevent another 'event' but at least this time we are taking some better preventative measures.

Did not work on long run outdoor POE devices

Used as a midpoint coupler for a CAT6 connection to a POE IP Surveillance Camera. It introduced *intermittent* restarts in the end device.Likely related to weather conditions.Which is the reason I would use a device like this instead of a simple coupler. It does work as designed when connected near either endpoint.

Bought 2, one failed

I bought 2 of these, one failed after about a year (wouldn't pass signal). I bought a different brand to replace it.

So far so good, we'll see what happens next thunderstorm

So far so good. I've been having ports fry in my switches periodically when there are thunderstorms. Sometimes the router is fried, sometimes its just the ports; so I went ahead and bought four of these to protect my switches. I am not using these on anything that requires PoE so I don't know if that works properly, but the links show as full 1000 and I haven't had any issues with connectivity. I'll update my review if I have another storm and lose any equipment despite these surge protectors.

Junk.

The media could not be loaded. It's not wired correctly. I installed this on a new branch line. My device had no connectivity and after troubleshooting all of my connections, I found this device to be faulty.

More than worth the small price if it saves big $ equipment

I have a camera at the gate 100 yards from the house. A few weeks ago a lightning strike hit the gate and smoked the camera. The voltage ran through 100 yards of CAT 6 and smoked the NVR. I can't verify whether this item would have saved the NVR, but it is inexpensive and worth the hope. It looks to be well made and was easy to connect.

Better than the APC devices for shielded cable.

Contrary to some reviews, IMHO this is a well designed device. has proper shielded connectors, which is important if you use shielded ethernet cable. The more expensive APC Ethernet Surge protector does not offer shield continuity. The shield does not connect to the ground lead and does not actively participate in the surge protection. But shield circuit continuity is important. These devices are pretty generic, and use parts that are identifiable as high-speed diodes and TVS diodes. The built quality is fine.
