I bought this in advance of a 6-week period during which I was unable to drive my car. Knowing that the car would actually benefit from a new battery, I also knew that its battery would be completely flat when I got back in it. Given the compact size of the CarHev 5000A jump starter, I was sceptical that it would turn over the 1.9 litre TDI engine of my car. (A different device purchased 2 years ago was not up to the task, despite the other manufacturer’s claims.) However, I clipped this one onto the very flat battery as instructed this morning, waited for the green light and was delighted to find the car started up on the very first turn of the key. What an excellent device - compact, easy to use, effective and (in my opinion) very good value for money.

I bought it as a Christmas present, so I have not had the opportunity to use it yet. Having said that. It arrived very quickly and was well packaged. Its sturdy design, with all the leads you will need. It has a torch and can be used as a USB charging station. It comes in a useful carry case, holding the power pack and all leads.Hopefully won't need it to jump-start a vehicle, but I feel happy I have it to hand if I ever need to use it.I did some research and this unit

Small and lightweight. It charges from a 2Amp mobile phone supply. It has 12v, 9v and 5volt outputs (e.g. for charging a phone, etc..). And a torch/flashing light. It comes in a nice case with all necessary leads and instructions.My car has a ‘phantom load’ problem which occasionally drains the battery. It is normally a good starter. When I needed to jump start the car (voltage was down to 8volts), it was simple to connect and worked perfectly.

I was hopeful that this portable jump starter would get me out of an ongoing annoying situation. I’m working on a project car which has a parasitic electrical drain on the battery that I’m trying to trace causing it to go flat over a couple of days.I’ve just replaced the battery with a brand new Bosch one - so this item should have had no problem with jumping it but unfortunately it has barely enough juice in it to even open and close the windows!It gives just enough power to try to start the car once and then looses 50% of its power so you can’t try again when it doesn’t work. The instructions say it needs to be at 75% as a minimum or could damage your battery. I tried re-charging it again which takes about 4 hours and then giving it another go - Still doesn’t work.When I use jump leads from another vehicle the car starts up immediately. The battery has been tested and is in good health.Spend your money elsewhere. Absolutely useless for me and not fit for purpose. I’ve no idea how there are so many positive reviews. Maybe my item is broken and it doesn’t have the power to do what it’s supposed to do.

Brilliant little piece of kit! I was very sceptical at first and thought there is no way this will start a car! It will and not once but many times. Fits snuggly in its own case with the leads and pretty much goes anywhere in the car it takes up no room at all. Very impressive, I would highly recommend.
